By driving real change, leading by example, and working hand in hand with partners, companies can effectively combat global climate change. tesa has recognized this challenge and responded with its Supplier Green Energy Program, launched in 2024, an innovative initiative that goes far beyond conventional approaches
Sustainability
Decarbonizing the supply chain is not only a crucial step for companies to achieve their sustainability goals; it's a powerful commitment to a more sustainable future.
Reducing CO₂ emissions in the supply chain is a complex task that requires cross-industry collaboration and technological innovation. Companies face the challenge of creating transparency throughout their value chain, identifying emissions hotspots and engaging suppliers in sustainability measures. More than 800 suppliers worldwide deliver raw materials, products and services to tesa. That complex international network generates a large share of the total CO₂ emissions connected to our business activities. That’s why tesa launched its Supplier Green Energy Program in 2024. This program aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the value chain and significantly reduce CO₂ emissions.
It's truly a win-win situation. Together, we identify challenges and then implement specific solutions that support progress for decarbonization.
In this way, our suppliers grab an advantage by leading the way forward for sustainability, while tesa moves closer toward its target of reducing Scope 3 emissions by at least 20 percent by 2030 (compared to the base year 2018).
Close connections
The tesa Supplier Green Energy Program builds on our strong record of close partnerships with suppliers. Back in 2020, we began inviting suppliers to share their sustainability performance via a digital platform. Our teams are now levelling up this trust-based and dialog-driven approach to develop and implement emission-reducing measures together.
Our program begins with assessments of each supplier’s status in terms of decarbonization. Based on this, we then collaborate to agree a set of focus topics and ambitions for reducing CO₂ emissions within their processes. Regular calls and site visits make sure everybody is closely connected, while our teams also share best practice examples and other valuable guidance.
tesa and its key strategic suppliers, who offer the highest potential to cut Scope 3 emissions in our global supply chain, openly exchange data and expertise to improve transparency about energy consumption and the related CO₂ emissions. tesa has developed strong relationships with these companies over many years and we are now leveraging those bonds to achieve measurable progress together: We work side by side to plan specific actions that boost efficiency for each supplier’s processes. This strengthens the supplier’s reputation for sustainability and moves tesa closer toward achieving its Scope 3 target.
More partnerships and more pathways
As the next step, tesa will carry forward momentum and involve more suppliers in this collective push for progress. Goals, tools and supportive materials will guide each supplier on its unique pathway to emissions reduction based on the specific status of its decarbonization efforts. We are also introducing a Supplier Academy platform to share insights about successfully switching to green energy

Facing the future, together
These efforts to reduce tesa’s Scope 3 emissions in 2024 pay into our long-term strategic goal for all suppliers to comply with tesa’s sustainability standards. Our commitment to responsible sourcing includes embracing bio-based and recycled raw materials, as well as increasing transparency across our supply chain. Achieving progress from a network of more than 800 suppliers worldwide is a tough challenge. But our collaborative approach is unlocking a truly win-win situation for tesa and its business partners. Together, we are forming an international community that is stepping up and taking responsibility for the future of our industry.
