Choosing the right adhesive for vehicle exteriors requires some consideration. You need a solution that is strong, resistant to vibration, stress, and temperature changes. Plus, it must have a long-lasting bond. You also need something that sits flush with the bodywork's angles and ridges without showing.
Emblem mounting tapes are typically used for automotive applications. These include cars and motorcycles, all the way through to specialist vehicles such as emergency services and transportation trucks.
In particular, our most popular emblem mounting tapes, widely approved by OEMS, are the tesa® 772xx and 78xx ranges.
The viscoelastic acrylic foam core of tesa® ACXplus 77210 helps provide a strong, reliable bond across a variety of surfaces and substrates. The foam core is able to compensate stress caused by thermal elongation of bonded parts, and is resistant to extreme swings in temperature, as well as UV resistant.

This double-sided acrylic foam tape is ideal for mounting trims and components, as well as a specialist emblem mounting tape. Our tesa® ACXplus 78xx Black Line tape (opens in a new window or tab) comes in a deep black colour, making it ideal for mounting automotive parts.

Our automotive mounting tapes (opens in a new window or tab), tesa® ACXplus acrylic foam tape and tesa® PE foam tape have been approved for material and parts from a range of well known OEM and OES. These include Audi, BMW, Daimler, Stellantis, Ford, Geely, Hyundai, JLR, Renault, Toyota, VW and many more.
A core challenge in automotive manufacturing is cutting vehicle weight to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. One way to achieve this is to reduce fixtures that add weight, such as screws and rivets.

Depending on the surface you are mounting your parts to, our adhesion promoters may be required to guarantee the best, long-acting bond.
In any case, proper preparation is key to achieving a long-acting bond. We recommend the following steps before applying our emblem mounting tapes:
#1 Clean the substrate to ensure that it is free of dust, grease, oil, moisture, and other contaminants. We recommend using a lint-free cloth and a solvent cleaner, such as ethanol, isopropanol alcohol, or tesa® 60040 Industry Cleaner.
While recommended, steps 2-4 are optional.
#2 Once your surface has been prepared, apply tesa® 60151 Adhesion Promoter. This should be done with a lint-free cloth, sponge, or brush, and wiped in a single direction.
#3 Immediately after this, use a clean lint-free cloth to remove excess adhesion promoter. A squeaking noise indicates a good layer of product has been applied.
#4 Wait between 30 seconds, minimum, and 5 minutes, maximum to allow solvents to evaporate.
#5 Once these steps have been taken, you can now apply your tape. The bond should be established within 15 minutes of application.
#6 To ensure good adhesion, apply uniform, moderate pressure when affixing the tape. For optimal results, we recommend using a manual or automatic roller.
