We worked with a leader in industrial insulation to evolve their EV battery design to feature a higher energy density for better performance. Safety was critical, with tightly packed cells required to be thermally insulated from each other. With the aid of our 0.5 mm tape that fulfills the UL94 standard for flammability of plastic materials with a rating of VTM-0, they were able to create a more efficient use of space without compromising on safety. With this method, we support cell to pack design and give strength to the cells without the need for structural aids, such as battery module walls.

We have developed a concept to optimize cell-wrapping efficiency, combining the processes of lamination of the front and back, the tab folding and folding both sides in. Reducing the complexity cuts the number of steps in the process from 6 – 7, to just 4. In turn, this reduces the machine space required.
