DIY Paper Lanterns

Not only all colors will agree in the dark. Also the forest animals shed their colors and appear in black. However, the candles in the folded paper lanterns make the animals glow.

We need:

forest animals’ stamps black ink pad white paper thick tracing paper A4 schematic drawing scissors, pencil, ruler tea lights incl. matching glasses (never use the candles alone, due to the risk of fire!) double-sided adhesive tape transparent tape

Stamp animals on the paper and enlarge the images using a copy machine

Stamp animals on the paper and enlarge the images using a copy machine: place the subject in the center and 5 cm from the bottom edge. Then copy the finished design on the tracing paper. Now place the tracing paper on the schematic drawing and transfer the lines using a pencil. The lanterns can easily be adjusted in height: simply extend the side edges in the schematic drawing and adjust the diagonal lines accordingly.

Cut out the lanterns

Cut out the lanterns along the outer edges.

Fold all longitudinal lines inward

All lines are folded from one side. Place the paper face down and fold all longitudinal lines inward.

Fold edges of the bottom inward

Then fold the lower edges of the bottom inward.

Fold the diagonal lines inward

Now fold the diagonal lines inward: First, the four diagonal lines in one direction, ...

... then the four diagonal lines in the other direction.

Remove the protective film

Glue the sides together

Finally, carefully push the four vertical edges inward.
