tesa is driving measurable progress on sustainability: advances in emissions, renewable energy and materials
- Climate-neutral production in sight: 50 percent CO₂ reduction in Scope 1 and 2 already achieved
- Renewable energy: 95 percent renewable electricity; 10,000 MWh of self-generated electricity from PV
- More sustainable portfolio: More than 100 products and adhesive solutions with a more sustainable contribution in the tesa® range
Norderstedt, 22 April 2026 – tesa, the international manufacturer of innovative adhesive tapes and self-adhesive product solutions, is consistently implementing its sustainability strategy and making its progress transparent with concrete figures. The holistic “we do” strategy bundles the transformation into five fields of action: emissions reduction, responsible sourcing, the use of recycled and bio-based materials, circular economy, and support for customers in achieving their sustainability goals. By 2030, tesa will invest around 300 million euros with the aim of achieving climate-neutral production in Scope 1 and 2. The focus is on energy savings, higher efficiency and the transition to renewable energies such as solar and wind power.
Milestones in climate action and energy
Compared with the base year 2018, tesa has reduced its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 50 percent. At the same time, the company covers 95 percent of its global electricity demand with renewable energy and generates around 10,000 MWh of electricity worldwide through its own photovoltaic systems. The company’s course is externally confirmed by the renewed CDP climate A rating, EcoVadis Gold, and awards such as the Microsoft Intelligent Manufacturing Award and the dena Energy Efficiency Award.
“Sustainability is a strategic lever for tesa – for competitiveness and supply security. By reducing emissions, expanding renewable energy and continuously developing materials, we are reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and volatile markets. In this way, we are strengthening the resilience of our sites and creating the basis for secure, future-proof production – and for solutions that also support our customers in achieving their sustainability goals,” says Dr. Ingrid Sebald, Chief Technology Officer at tesa.
Materials and circular economy: progress with clear proof points
In addition to the energy transition, tesa is addressing material use along the value chain. By the end of 2025, tesa had reduced the share of fossil virgin plastics in packaging by 63 percent, clearly surpassing the original target of 50 percent by the end of 2025. In terms of the share of recycled and bio-based materials in products, tesa reached 32 percent by the end of 2025 and is moving toward its target of 70 percent by 2030. More than 100 products and adhesive solutions with a more sustainable contribution are included in the tesa® portfolio, including tesafilm® Paper, a paper-based version of the well-known classic. For industrial applications, tesa relies on its “Debonding on Demand” technology in the spirit of the circular economy: it enables strong adhesive bonds to be released in a controlled and residue-free way, for example through targeted external influence such as heat or electrical impulses. This enables rework, repair and recycling.
