For the third consecutive year: tesa receives A rating from CDP for climate action commitment
- Decoupling growth from emissions: CDP recognizes tesa's pioneering role in climate protection
- Successful sustainability strategy: 39 percent CO₂ reduction in Scope 1 and 2, 90 percent of global electricity demand from renewable energy
- Climate neutrality by 2030: Strategic investments in solvent-free production, renewable energy, and energy efficiency on the path to climate-neutral production
Norderstedt – tesa, international manufacturer of innovative adhesive tapes and self-adhesive product solutions, has once again been awarded the top rating A by CDP for its climate action commitment. The independent non-profit organization evaluates companies annually using transparent, scientific criteria to assess how they reduce emissions, manage climate risks, and implement their climate strategy. The A rating confirms tesa's successful climate protection efforts and consistent implementation of the "we do" sustainability strategy, aiming for climate-neutral production by 2030.
External recognition for successful climate action measures
Through concrete measures in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and technological innovation, the company is systematically driving the transformation to climate-neutral production.
"Receiving the CDP A rating again is important external validation of our ambitious climate action measures," explains Dr. Ingrid Sebald, Chief Technology Officer at tesa. "It shows that our 'we do' sustainability strategy is working and that we are on the right track toward climate-neutral production by 2030. We clearly focus on reducing and avoiding emissions while continuing to grow. This transformation is not only an ecological necessity but also a strategic opportunity: It strengthens our competitiveness, supports our customers in achieving their sustainability goals, promotes innovation, and makes us more independent from fossil fuels."
Sustainability strategy "we do": Tangible success on the path to climate neutrality
In the action area "reduce emissions" of the sustainability strategy "we do," tesa has set the goal, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), of achieving climate-neutral production by 2030. The company's energy strategy is based on three pillars: reduction of energy consumption, transformation to renewable energy, and self-production of energy.
The success of this strategy is already measurable: Since 2018, tesa has reduced CO₂ emissions in Scope 1 and 2 by 39 percent. 90 percent of global electricity demand is now covered by renewable energy. Additionally, the company produces a growing share of energy itself—for example, through photovoltaic systems at all production sites worldwide.
Beyond switching to renewable energy, tesa focuses on technological innovation. Converting to solvent-free production processes reduces emissions and significantly lowers energy consumption. AI-supported energy management systems enable tesa to continuously optimize production processes and increase energy efficiency at all sites worldwide.
Investments in a more sustainable future
By 2030, tesa will invest around 300 million euros in the sustainable transformation of its business. These investments support modern technologies, renewable energy, and innovative production processes. Examples include electric boilers for steam generation without fossil fuels and modern heat pumps for efficient, sustainable heat supply at the sites.
