Material Handler (Forklift)

Location:  USA, Sparta MI

Function:  Production

The 3rd shift Material Handler is responsible to perform all functions of tesa tape’s Plant in Sparta, including moving material with sit-down forklift, pallet jack and other equipment to appropriate areas as needed and delivery of high quality cores, correctly marked and sized, to the appropriate machine. 

Key Responsibilities           
  •  Determine from Material Orders at each machine what material and cores are required and when and deliver to those machines on a timely basis driving a forklift approx. 90% of the shift.
  • Enter information into SAP.
  • Cut high quality, correctly sized cores.                   
  • Work safely with sharp blades.                                                                                                                        
  • Move materials to appropriate areas such as, but not limited to, moving jumbos, packing materials, skids, etc.
  • Assist operators with changeovers, splicing, and help take rolls off the spoolers and other functions as needed. Load cores into machines as necessary. 
  • Keep machinery in good working order by making adjustments as necessary, replacing shaft sleeves and lubricating pads when worn, communicating with blade tender to assure supply of ready to use blades.
  • Perform key inventories, including use of SAP.                                                          
  • Follow and give written and oral instructions/communication, and work without close supervision.
  • Capable of earning and maintain a forklift license.                                                       
  • Work in a group concept; self-motivated; and able and willing to be cross-functional.
  • Uphold company safety, environmental and quality standards.       
Additional duties:
  • Keep work area(s) neat and clean.
  • Perform preventive maintenance as needed.
  • Train new employees as instructed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent, with basic math and computer skills.
  • Must be able to read and speak English.  Must be able to count accurately, use a calculator and write legibly.  Must be able to think/convert to metric measurements with training.
  • Previous manufacturing machine related experience preferred.
  • Prefer power forklift experience.
  • Ability to follow directions and function as a team member with a positive attitude.
  • Stand and walk a significant part of the scheduled shift.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs., occasionally 85 lbs; pull up to 3,000 pounds with a pallet jack.    
  • Must have correctable vision and hearing.
  • Must be able to work within the framework of 6S, ISO and IATF requirements
  • Hours: 11:00pm - 7:00am, and overtime as required.
