Resource-efficient packaging solutions: tesa introduces recycled PET packaging tapes
- Make sense: tesa expands portfolio with recycled PET tapes for packaging applications
- Proven performance: High recycled content of up to 60% while maintaining proven quality
- Quick and quiet: Low unwinding force and immediate sealing performance – perfect for automated processes and high-volume applications
Norderstedt – tesa, an international manufacturer of innovative adhesive tapes and self-adhesive product solutions, is strengthening its strategic commitment to sustainability through its "Make sense" campaign by focusing on more sustainable packaging solutions. Responding to regulatory requirements, growing demands for resource efficiency and climate neutrality, and increasing market interest in sustainable products, tesa is introducing two new PET tapes with recycled content of up to 60%. These tapes help customers achieve their sustainability goals without compromising on performance.
Product highlights: More sustainable packaging tapes with proven quality
The tesa® 60416 features a total of 55% recycled material. Its carrier consists of 90% recycled PET from post-consumer waste and is coated with a proven water-based acrylic adhesive system. Despite the high recycled content, the product offers a strong, tear-resistant carrier and a temperature-resistant adhesive – ideal for heavy-weight packaging applications up to 30 kg. The smooth, quiet unwinding creates a pleasant working environment, while the tape doesn't interfere with paper recycling processes.
The tesa® 60418 sets new standards with a total recycled content of 60%. It combines a synthetic rubber hot-melt adhesive with high initial tack and a very thin polyester carrier made of 85% post-consumer recycled material. The product is thin, conformable, and tear-resistant. With low unwinding force and excellent immediate sealing performance, it's the ideal solution for automated packaging processes and high-volume applications. Suitable for medium-weight cartons up to 25 kg, it's manufactured using a solvent-free production process.
"Our new recycled PET tapes show that even small elements in the supply chain can make a significant contribution to more sustainable packaging solutions," explains Andreas Walkembach, Head of Industrial Trade & Converting Europe. "All tapes are certified for their quality, performance, and recycled plastic content. They're fully compatible with existing application processes and offer our customers the reliability they expect from tesa – while taking a step towards sustainability."
tesa 2030: Ambitious sustainability strategy with measurable goals
Developing more sustainable products is a key strategic priority for tesa. Through its "we do" sustainability strategy, the company aims to increase recycled and bio-based materials across all products to 70% by 2030, while cutting non-recycled fossil plastic use in half. tesa has already reached significant milestones: a 39% reduction in direct CO₂ emissions, 90% of global electricity sourced from renewables, and approximately 80 products with sustainability benefits added to its portfolio. Additional sustainable innovations, especially for packaging solutions, are currently in development and will launch early next year – further demonstrating tesa's enduring commitment to a more sustainable future.
The new packaging tapes tesa® 60416 and tesa® 60418 are now available through distribution network.
