Norderstedt – tesa, international manufacturer of innovative adhesive tapes and self-adhesive product solutions, continues its consistent sustainability course and presents the results in its Sustainability Report 2024. By 2030, the company is investing around 300 million euros in transforming its business with the goal of achieving climate-neutral production (Scope 1 and 2). The investments include measures for energy savings, increasing energy efficiency, and switching to renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. The company has already made significant progress in implementing its climate goals and developing more sustainable product solutions.
Milestones in energy transformation
With a CO₂ reduction of 39 percent in Scope 1 and 2, tesa is making a significant contribution to its goal of climate-neutral production by 2030. The company reached a special milestone in energy supply: 90 percent of global electricity demand is now covered by renewable energy sources. Several new major projects contribute to this success: A solar park went into operation at the production site in Offenburg in spring, which is expected to cover around 25 percent of local electricity demand. New solar installations were also installed at the headquarters in Norderstedt and at the US site in Sparta. As part of its comprehensive energy strategy, tesa began planning the connection of the Hamburg plant to the hydrogen network in 2024 – a measure that is expected to save around 6,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually in the future.
Sustainability and innovation as success factors
"Innovation and sustainability are inseparably linked at tesa. Through technological advances and targeted investments, we strive not only for environmental responsibility but also for economic success – setting standards in our industry," emphasizes tesa CEO Dr. Norman Goldberg.
This is particularly evident in our product portfolio: tesa now offers around 80 products that contribute to sustainability. One outstanding example is the award-winning "Debonding on Demand" technology, which revolutionises the repair and recycling of products by making strong adhesive bonds removable in a targeted manner. "Innovation begins with each individual. In close cooperation with our customers, we develop more sustainable and circular solutions that create real added value," adds Dr. Ingrid Sebald, Board Member Technology at tesa SE, who is also responsible for sustainability.
tesa embraces AI and digital solutions for sustainable growth
In parallel, tesa is driving digital transformation as a building block for sustainable development. From AI-supported product development to digital customer interaction and resource-efficient manufacturing, the company relies on forward-looking technologies. These enable not only faster development cycles and process optimizations but also a significant reduction in resource consumption. The result is a continuously growing more sustainable portfolio – from more sustainable packaging solutions to adhesive tapes made from recycled and bio-based materials – as well as more energy-efficient production methods and processes.
With the holistic sustainability strategy "we do," tesa pursues a strategic transformation approach in five action areas: reduce emissions, source responsibly, rethink materials, push circularity and support customers. The consistent implementation of this strategy and the clear commitment to action are reflected in the successes of 2024. The complete Sustainability Report 2024 is now available on the tesa website.
