FAQs Protecting Windows
Function
For which windows is the tesa folding frame for windows suitable?
The tesa folding frame for windows is suitable for inward opening windows. The clear width of the window opening should be in the range 76 cm - 138 cm. The clear height between 75.5 cm - 137.5 cm. These are external window dimensions from 80x80cm to 140x140cm. Pre-fitted protective grilles or weather bars may possibly prevent installation.
Which insects are kept out?
All of them, whether flies, mosquitoes, wasps. Spiders too, of course.
Does the net also protect against pollen?
No. The mesh size of the net is optimised for insect protection and excellent visibility. Pollen is not kept out.
Does the net also protect against the sun?
No. The mesh size of the net is optimised for insect protection and excellent visibility. It does not protect against the sun.
What is the mesh size?
The mesh size is 1.2 mm x 1.3 mm.
How is the product packaged?
The product is in an outer packaging with assembly instructions.
Is the FALT fly screen cat-proof?
The Clear View Ultra fabric features ultra-thin threads - to provide even better ventilation and visibility. As a result, the mesh is not scratch-resistant.
Construction
How do I measure my window?
To check the suitability for installation, measure the width and height of the window opening (clear width and clear height) with the window open. In addition, measure the existing contact surfaces on the frame and the distance between the outer frame surface and any existing roller shutter. The required measurements can be taken from the installation instructions.
Can I assemble the tesa folding frame for windows on my own?
Assembly is easier with two people, but the product can usually be assembled alone.
I have installed a bracket with the wrong size, how do I get it out of the corner connector again?
The angle bracket is held by a small plastic tongue. Use a biro to press down the plastic tongue (visible in pictures 11 and 12 of the assembly instructions) while pulling the bracket out of the corner connector.
How does the assembly work? I am having difficulty fitting the brush seals with the long bristles (fitting instructions step 24).
In rare cases, the brush seal with the long bristles gets stuck at the transition between the corner connector and the profile. In this case, take a thin but not pointed object (biros, letter opener, thin knitting needle) and press it onto the threaded brush seal in the corner connector. Then, with constant pressure, insert the brush seal with the thin object into the profile groove.
The net is very wrinkled - what can I do about it?
Wrinkles can be softened with a household hair dryer: Set the hair dryer to the highest setting, keeping a distance of 20 cm from the net and smoothing it out with little pressure.
The net shows slight waves and is not quite taut. How can I improve this?
Loosen the net clamping bars in some areas with a small screwdriver or a fork tine and carefully tighten the net. A second person or strategically placed weights can simplify the net assembly.
When I pull the tesa folding frame for windows apart when measuring, the profiles sink in very slightly so that the height cannot be adjusted correctly. What can I do about this?
This is annoying, but can at least be remedied: as soon as you have telescoped the folding frame in the window to the correct width and height (according to step 9 of the assembly instructions), the profile transitions can be secured with tesafilm. Alternatively, and if the folding frame is already telescoped to almost the right size, a short piece of brush seal can be pushed into the smaller profile under the telescoped outer profile; this then acts as a profile brake.
How does the assembly work? I am having difficulty fitting the net clamping bars that are supposed to hold the net in the folding frame.
A rubber or plastic hammer can simplify the assembly. If you don't have one, a normal hammer with a cushioning pad (e.g. large eraser, thick cardboard, etc.) can also be used.
Although the brackets are on the very outside in the corners of the window frame, I can see a gap on the side between the window frame and the tesa folding frame. How can I change this?
A light gap will be visible especially with rounded frame edges. Normally, this gap is no larger than the mesh size of the net and insects will not enter. If the gap is significantly larger, please check as shown in step 4 of the assembly instructions whether the correct bracket set has been used. It is also important to ensure that the net is evenly and not too tightly stretched. In the border area, when the outer edge of the window frame is aligned with the inner embossed mark of the retaining bracket, the next smaller retaining bracket set can also be used.
Do I have to drill during installation?
No. You will be able to attach the product without drilling, as the tesa folding frame window frame can be hung.
What tools do I need for assembly?
Sturdy household scissors. A cutter would be very helpful, but a small pair of scissors will do in a pinch. If the upper edge of the window is in a position that is difficult to reach, we recommend the construction method with a tape measure, i.e. you will then also need one. Note: A folding rule is not suitable because its links do not allow an exact measurement if the measured distance does not happen to correspond to the length of the folding rule links.
How long does it take to set up?
About an hour should be planned.
Is special cleaning necessary before mounting?
A basic cleaning of the window frame before assembly is recommended (but technically not absolutely necessary). At the very least, however, coarse dirt in the area of the window seals should be removed.
Why is the FALT frame no longer symmetrical after the grid has been clamped?
The mesh must not be stretched too much, i.e. if there are already no folds left in the mesh, the tension is already too high. This effect is stronger the closer the folding frame is brought to its maximum outer size. The result is that the profiles bend inwards and are no longer in their original shape. Slight tensioning of the fabric is no problem; however, the fabric in this product must not be tensioned as tightly as in a tennis racket.
Should the FALT window be dismantled in winter?
In principle, all our ALU systems are suitable for winter use, so that dismantling is not absolutely necessary. However, if it is possible to store the FALT window during the winter, the window can be dismantled, stored in its original size and reinserted later. On this occasion, the frame and the grille can also be cleaned gently.
Disposal
How do I dispose of the product correctly?
The product can be disposed of in household waste.
Can the product be recycled?
After the product has been dismantled into its individual parts, many parts can also be recycled at the recycling centre. Profiles -> aluminium/metal, brackets -> stainless steel/metal, net PET/plastic
Sustainable use
Can I remove the tesa folding frame for windows again without damage?
Yes, you can remove the folding frame without damage.
How long can I use the tesa folding frame for windows?
You can use the product for many years because it is of high quality.
Can I dismantle the tesa folding frame for windows and reassemble it somewhere else and use it again for my new flat, for example?
We recommend NOT disassembling the tesa folding frame for windows. It has been individually constructed for this window size, and the net has been cut to fit it precisely. If you use a different window, there is a risk that the removed net will no longer be large enough or its protrusions will be too short, so that it can no longer be attached to the tesa Folding Frame for Windows.
Can I dismantle and disassemble the tesa folding frame for windows for the winter?
The tesa folding frame for windows can be removed at any time (keep the safety clips in a safe place or stick them to the tesa folding frame with tesafilm, for example, because they have to be reinserted when it is reassembled). Then put the tesa folding frame away / store it in the assembled state, like a canvas. However, we do not recommend disassembling it: the tesa folding frame for windows has been individually constructed for this window size, and the net has been cut to fit exactly for it. If you use a different window, there is a risk that the net will no longer be large enough or that its projections will be too short, so that it can no longer be attached to the tesa Folding Frame for Windows.
Does the net take away light? Does the net darken my room?
A noticeable darkening of the room will not be perceptible. The net was developed to ensure maximum light penetration. Only in direct comparison with another door will a slight tinting effect be visible.
How do I clean the tesa folding frame for windows?
The tesa folding frame for windows can be cleaned with a mild detergent solution.
How do I clean the Clear View fabric?
There are several ways to clean the Clear View fabric. For light soiling, the fabric can simply be wiped with a damp cloth. Generally, coarser dirt can be removed by dragging the fabric through water or by hand washing it at up to 30°C. Afterwards, the Clear View fabric should only be air-dried and not ironed. Afterwards, the Clear View fabric should only be air-dried and not ironed. Of course, you also have the option of dry cleaning. A hoover with a brush attachment is suitable here. When storing the fabric without the ALU frame - e.g. in winter - we recommend rolling up the fabric to avoid creasing.
Technical data
How thick is the tesa folding frame for windows?
There should be a gap of at least 1.9 cm between the outer window frame and any existing roller shutters for the installation of the tesa folding frame for windows. The required contact surface on the window frame is 1.5 cm and the width of the frame profiles is 2.7 cm.
We have external roller shutters - does the tesa folding frame still fit on the window?
There should be a gap of at least 1.6 cm between the outer window frame and any existing roller shutters for the installation of the tesa ALU folding frame. The width of the frame profiles (in the direction of the window plane) is 2.7 cm. A contact surface of 1.5 cm is required on the outer frame.
How heavy is the tesa folding frame for windows?
The assembled product weighs about 1.6 kg.
Which components are included?
All components necessary for assembly and installation are included: The tesa folding frame, some stopper strips and clamping strips for the net, handles and various sets of holding brackets with which the tesa folding frame can be hooked onto the window frame from the outside, net and safety clips for locking at the top edge of the window as well as cover caps for the corners.
What RAL color is the white aluminium frame?
The RAL color is 9016.
What is the RAL color of the anthracite-colored aluminium frame?
The RAL color is 7016.
Which variants of the product are available?
The FALT door is available with a white and anthracite frame, the insect screen net is anthracite in both cases.
Can I customise the dimensions?
Yes, the FALT window is telescopic and can be infinitely adjusted to many window sizes.
What is the surface of the frame like?
The aluminium frame is powder-coated.
What is the installation procedure for bevelled frames?
Please check in advance whether the FALT frame can be used. The contact surface of the frame is 15 mm on all four sides. In the case of bevelled frames, this contact surface may not be sufficient, so that gaps may form.
Can the fly screen of the FALT window become mouldy?
The fly screen fabric is resistant to mould. The supply of fresh air during ventilation is not restricted by the fly screen fabric. Organic components that get caught in the fly screen over time can theoretically mould at very high humidity. The FALT frame can be removed from the window for cleaning.
What material is the fly screen made of?
The fly screen is made of PET fabric.
