Installation Guide for tesa® Bad Accessoires

This is how easy it is to take advantage of all the benefits of tesa® Power.Kit and tesa® Powerstrip technologies

No drill holes, no noise, no dirt, enormous holding power and residue-free removal - many arguments speak for the use of our revolutionary adhesive solution.

To ensure that tesa® Power.Kit technology can develop its full adhesive performance, we have summarized the most important information for you on this page.

A woman in a white t-shirt and jeans holds a large white speech bubble. Inside the bubble are images of a door lock mechanism and a knob, along with references to using tesa tape for installation. She has a thoughtful expression and stands against a plain white background. (This text has been generated by AI)

Power.Kit Adapters & Adhesives

Easily find your fitting Power.Kit Adapter with our easy to read tables.

Unfortunately there is not one adapters that fit all. Therefore, we have created an overview about which adapter suits to which product.

FAQ'S about our adhesive technologies:

Where is the tesa® Power.Kit fastening system produced?

The tesa® Power.Kit fastening system is manufactured in Germany.

Which substrates are suitable for the adhesive?

Almost all solid or load-bearing smooth and rough surfaces are suitable. The tesa® Power.Kit system is especially predestined for high-quality materials such as stone, ceramics (tiles), glass, concrete, metal, wood, and many plastics, which you are usually reluctant to drill into and thus damage anyway. However, if these surfaces have been subsequently coated, painted, sealed, or impregnated, the load-bearing capacity suffers. Installation is then not recommended.
Loose and painted plaster or wallpaper as well as textile substrates are rather unsuitable for such surface fastening due to their lack of strength and load-bearing capacity.
No adhesion is given on polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE, Teflon). Since we can only cover a section - albeit as large as possible - of suitable surfaces or surface treatments with our instructions here, it is the user's responsibility to carry out preliminary tests on other substrates.

How do I clean the substrate properly?

Before using tesa® Power.Kit technology, the surface must be cleaned and prepared. Use a clean, soft cloth and (some water) pure alcohol (70% isopropyl alcohol solution) to remove dust or dirt from the surface.

Afterwards, make sure the surface is clean and dry. Do not use benzine or methylated spirits under any circumstances. Important: The insulating layer on hydrophobic tiles cannot be removed chemically.

Does the adhesive also hold on rough surfaces?

The roughness of the surface does not affect the adhesion of the tesa® Power.Kit adhesive as long as it is firm or stable. The surface must be flat so that the adhesive does not leak out from under the adapter ring. If the surface is a little rough, the adhesive will work even better. If you apply the adhesive to a rough surface, make sure that the unevenness does not exceed 1 mm and allow an additional drying time of 12 hours per mm of surface deviation.

The surface condition does not play a role in the adhesion of the tesa® Power.Kit adhesive. However, it is important that the surface is flat, as the adapter is as well. The gaps between the surface and the adapter should not exceed 1 mm. On a slightly roughened surface, the adhesive holds even better due to the additional mechanical interlocking. The surface finish makes more of a difference when removing the adhesive. In order to remove the silicone-like adhesive from the gaps and pores of rough surfaces without leaving any residue, it is necessary to use silicone remover, pure alcohol and a root brush - unlike on glass or smooth tiles, for example. As a rule, however, the adhesive can be removed without leaving any residue. If you decide to glue on a rough substrate, you should make sure that the unevenness does not exceed 1 mm and that the drying time increases by 12 hours per additional millimeter of height difference.

Does the adhesive also hold on joints?

The adapter to be filled with adhesive can be placed on a joint. Here, however, the adhesive may escape under the adhesive ring and may have to be cut off after curing so as not to be in the way, depending on the accessory and rosette size.

Does the adhesive hold even in the presence of strong water vapor?

We do not recommend using tesa® Power.Kit technology under strong water vapors, such as in steam baths. A steam bath corresponds to permanent exposure to moisture and is therefore equivalent to permanent installation under the influence of water, for which Power.Kit technology is not suitable.

In what condition should the substrate be to ensure optimal grip?

The substrate should be free of grease, dirt, lime and dust to ensure an optimal grip.

Can the adhesive also be used outdoors?

Without further ado! The adhesive is non-rotting, UV-resistant, moisture-resistant and also not susceptible to frost (during processing alone, the temperature should be between +5 and +40 degrees Celsius). However, the adhesive should not be permanently submerged in water. Installation in a direct stream of water or running water on the wall is not recommended.

In what temperature range can the adhesive be used?

After curing, the adhesive is permanently resistant from -40 to + 100 °C.

What materials is the adhesive composed of?

Liquid adhesive: 1-component moisture-curing adhesive, silyl modified polymer (SMP adhesive)

Does the adhesive have a best-before date?

Each tube has an expiration date. The expiration date is embossed on the tube fold in the format DDMMYY. After the tube has been opened, it must be used as soon as possible for the entire application. The adhesive hardens quickly when in contact with air.

The adhesive itself is non-rotting and thus has an unlimited shelf life. However, since it is very difficult to process and store the adhesive under complete exclusion of air, the adhesive in the tube may harden gradually over a long period. However, the minimum shelf life is 15 months, provided that the storage temperature is < 25 °C.. The expiration date of this 15-month period is stamped on the tube fold in the format DDMMYY. In the unlikely event that you have found a tube of cured adhesive in your fixing kit, please contact us by email.

Does the adhesive have a strong adhesive odor?

No, the adhesive is odorless.

Does the adhesive leave residue if something runs off during attachment/filling?

On suitable surfaces, leaked adhesive can be scraped off with a (kitchen) scraper after curing.

Can the adhesive be washed out/off (clothing, etc.)?

No, only conditionally, not completely.

How long does the adhesive have to dry before I can attach the accessory?

Allow the adhesive filled in the adapter to cure for 12 hours (reference value: 50% humidity; 23 °C) and do not touch the adapter. You can then attach the accessory. Low humidity (< 40%) and temperature (< 20 °C) can delay the curing process.

Can the adhesive be recycled?

No, the product cannot be recycled.

How do I dispose of the adhesive correctly?

Hardened or dried adhesive residues can be disposed of in small quantities with household waste. The same applies to the adapter after disassembly.

Can the adhesive fail after a while?

Definitely not, provided it is not exposed to regular wetness (see point 9)! When used correctly with tesa® Power.Kit technology, the single-component adhesive guarantees lasting and consistent adhesive performance and permanent elasticity. It can withstand long-term pressure and short, sharp impacts. This means that tesa® Power.Kit technology offers users a novel, impressive, and positive adhesive performance.

Can I use another adhesive that I still have at home?

No, because we can only guarantee a corresponding holding force with the combination of our adhesive and the tesa® Power.Kit adapter.

Is the adhesive sufficient for exactly one application or more?

The adhesive is only available in conjunction with a tesa® Power.Kit Adapter and is rated for one application.
