FAQs

What surfaces are suitable for Adhesive Strips?

They work best on smooth, flat surfaces like glass, ceramics (tiles), wood and most plastics, and the Wallpaper & Plaster ones are great for many more sensitive surfaces (not suitable for vinyl wallpaper or non-stick surfaces e.g. silicon). Varnished and lacquer surfaces are usually fine, though if they’re porous it can be difficult to remove the strip without damaging the surface.

Can I use Adhesive Strips on windows?

Adhesive Strips Transparent will work just fine for a certain amount of time. Their UV resistance depends on the level of UV radiation and UV exposure time. The Adhesive Strips For Tiles & Metal and those for Wallpaper & Plaster are not suitable for windows as they are not UV resistant. Very high exposure might affect the removability of the die-cuts, though the adhesive bonding itself is not affected by the UV conditions.

Can I use Adhesive Strips on glass windows and doors?

Only our Adhesive Strips Transparent have some protection against the degrading effects of UV light.

Which surfaces can I apply tesa Powerstrips® to?

This varies by product. You can use tesa Powerstrips® Large, tesa Powerstrips® Small, tesa Powerstrips® Transparent Large, or tesa Powerstrips® Transparent Deco on tiles, glass, wood and most plastics. Ideally the surface should be smooth, flat and solid. tesa Powerstrips® Poster can be fixed to glass, wood, most synthetic materials (including plastic) and even sensitive surfaces like wallpaper or varnished surfaces. tesa Powerstrips® Waterproof Strips are suitable for tiles and glass but not all synthetic materials (plastic) or marble. If you want to apply this waterproof tape to a synthetic material, test it first on an unobtrusive area.

Can I use tesa Powerstrips® on glass windows?

Yes. You can use tesa Powerstrips® Transparent adhesive strips (Large) and tesa Powerstrips® Transparent Deco on glass as their adhesive bonding is unaffected by the UV conditions. However, very high UV exposure might make it harder to remove the die-cuts. The UV resistance of tesa Powerstrips® Transparent depends on the levels of UV radiation, UV intensity and UV exposure time. tesa Powerstrips® Poster, tesa Powerstrips® Large, tesa Powerstrips® Small) and tesa Powerstrips® Waterproof tape are not suitable for windows as they’re not UV-resistant.

Is it possible to use tesa Powerstrips® on varnished surfaces?

Generally it is possible to apply tesa Powerstrips® Large, tesa Powerstrips® Small, tesa Powerstrips® Transparent Deco, tesa Powerstrips® Transparent Large and tesa Powerstrips® Poster on varnished surfaces although this will depend on the quality of the surface. If the lacquer is porous, it might come off when the removable adhesive strips are repositioned.

Can I use tesa Powerstrips® on emulsion paint?

tesa Powerstrips® Poster are ideal for use on wallpaper and painted walls. It is generally possible to apply tesa Powerstrips® Large, tesa Powerstrips® Small, tesa Powerstrips® Transparent Deco and tesa Powerstrips® Transparent Large on emulsion paint although this will depend on the quality of the surface. If the paint is porous, it might come off when the removable adhesive strips are repositioned. If in doubt, do a small test first on an unobtrusive area.

Can I use tesa Powerstrips® on my car windows?

Generally no, because if temperatures rise to over 40 °C the adhesive bonding will be affected negatively. However, tesa Powerstrips® Transparent Large and tesa Powerstrips® Transparent Deco could be used for a short-term application as they have higher UV resistance than the other strips in the range. The UV resistance of tesa Powerstrips® Transparent depends on the levels of UV radiation, UV intensity and UV exposure time. Very high UV exposure might, however, make it harder to remove the die-cuts.

How much weight do the different tesa Powerstrips® strips hold?

tesa Powerstrips® Large (up to 2kg)
