tesa® Security Seal
Securely packed for the plane ride
Swiss tesa subsidiary tesa Bandfix AG, which specializes in label printing, has developed a security seal for use at airport duty-free shops, thereby opening up a new line of business.

Rémy Martin or Chanel No. 5: Liquids bought at duty-free shops are permitted on board planes only if they have special security seals.
The new EU security regulations for carry-on luggage, which have been in effect since November 2006, place additional restrictions on air travelers. As a response to the risk that someone might mix liquid explosives on a plane, travelers are now permitted to transport only limited amounts of fluids with them in their carryon
luggage.
For tesa Bandfix AG, the regulations were not an imposition, but rather a new opportunity to demonstrate the company’s flexibility in developing new products. The Nuance Group, a Switzerlandbased operator of duty-free shops in 17 countries, needed a solution to package the beverages, perfumes, gels, and similar substances the shops sell so that they could be sealed securely and made tamperproof.
Commissioned by PetroPlastVinora AG, a producer of plastic shopping bags, to come up with just such an answer to the problem, the experts from the Swiss city of Bergdietikon delivered a fully developed solution in just three weeks: an adhesive security tape labeled “Security Seal – do not remove.” The sales staff simply tuck the fluids away in the plastic shopping bag, remove the protective lining, press the seal firmly into place, and the bag is sealed securely.
